In fall of 2009, Alex Paul and I re-formed ACM's SIGMusic at UIUC. I went on to lead the Tacchi project. To quote our project page: Tacchi is SigMusic's 46" fully multitouch table. Complete with 2 cameras and 4 lazers, Tacchi is capable of unlimited users. SigMusic first unveiled Tacchi at Engineering Open House in 2010, winning "Best Undergraduate Student Research" as well as the Lockheed Martin Computer Science Award. Tacchi was constructed over a period of 4 months, starting from commodity hardware components. Tacchi again won first place at EOH for the category "Defining the Future" in 2011 with SigMusic's collaboration with SigArt.
Leading the Tacchi project was a very important experience. I learned essential concepts of project leadership, as well as creative problem solving. Tacchi is an ongoing project by nature, but since starting the project in 2009, we have reached many successful accomplishments. I'm continuing to add new features to the table, and use it for new research projects.
